Το χωριό των αιωνόβιων
Οι...Μαθουσάλες της Κρήτης ζουν στην Αγία Παρασκευή ή αλλιώς το «χωριό των αιωνόβιων», μία ημιορεινή περιοχή του Αμαρίου Ρεθύμνου, όπου οι περισσότεροι κάτοικοι βαδίζουν στη δέκατη δεκαετία της ζωής τους, όπως αναφέρει σε δημοσίευμά της η εφημερίδα Espresso.
Αν και το χωριό των μόλις 30 κατοίκων έγινε γνωστό ως η γενέτειρα του Στυλιανού Παττακού, διεκδικεί τα πρωτεία για τη μακροζωία των κατοίκων του, αλλά κι εκείνων που δεν μένουν πλέον εκεί.
Ο συνταξιούχος ταχυδρόμος Στέλιος Παπουτσάκης από την Αγία Παρασκευή, που τώρα διαμένει στο Ηράκλειο, είχε πει πριν από μερικά χρόνια: «Δεν ποθαίνω παρά μετά που θα ποθάνει ο Χριστόδουλος και ο Μητσοτάκης». Ο πρώτος αποδήμησε, ο δεύτερος ζει και ο κ. Παπουτσάκης πορεύεται πεισματικά στη ζωή, υπερβαίνοντας πλέον τον αιώνα.
Η Αγία Παρασκευή έχει παράδοση να γεννά αιωνόβιους και ενδεικτικά αναφέρεται η περίπτωση της Μαρίας Παττακογιωργάκενας, μητέρας του Παττακού, η οποία έφυγε από τη ζωή στα 105 της χρόνια (για άλλους στα 107).
Κάποια από τα οκτώ παιδιά της πήραν τα χρόνια της, όπως ο Στυλιανός που είναι 102 ετών και ζει στην Αθήνα, η κόρη της Στέλλα που πάτησε τα 100 και μένει στην Αμερική και ο άλλος της γιος Αλέκος, που έχει συμπληρώσει τα 98 του χρόνια.
Εκτός, όμως, από τα τρία παιδιά της Παττακογιωργάκενας και το συνταξιούχο ταχυδρόμο, τα χρονάκια τους τα έχουν και άλλοι Αγιοπαρασκευιώτες.
Ο 87χρονος Κώστας Φουντουλάκης αποδίδει το μέγιστο της ζωής των κατοίκων στις κλιματολογικές συνθήκες του χωριού και στη διατροφή τους, αφού τα κυριότερα προϊόντα που παράγουν είναι οι ελιές, τα χαρούπια και τα σιτηρά.
