Pavlos Vassiliou, voice/tzoura
Pavlos was born on Skopelos island in 1952. As a young child, he learned the art of Byzantine chant from his father, a church cantor and then adapted these skills into his rebetika performances. In 1981 he opened Rebetiki Istoria, the first and best-known rebetika club in Athens, and the only one loyal to early-style rebetika music and culture. As the lead singer, he keeps the musical program strictly within the rebetiko tradition. When away from Athens, Pavlos spends time on Skopelos where he nurtures his love for the sea and for fishing
